Todaiji (東大寺, Tōdaiji, "Awesome Eastern Temple") is one of Japan's most renowned and generally noteworthy sanctuaries and a point of interest of Nara. The sanctuary was built in 752 as the head sanctuary of all common Buddhist sanctuaries of Japan and developed so capable that the capital was moved from Nara to Nagaoka in 784 to bring down the sanctuary's impact on government undert.
