
Mount Osorezan (恐山) is positioned alongside Koyasan and Hieizan as one of Japan's three most sacrosanct spots. It was found more than 1000 years back by a Buddhist cleric looking for a hallowed mountain that takes after the universe of Buddha. Today, it is the site of Bodaiji Temple.
Osorezan is deciphered as "Trepidation Mountain", a name that comes to some extent from the mountain's outstanding scene. The territory is rich in volcanic action, and an in number smell of sulfur pervades the air. The ground is dark and fruitless and stamped by openings that steam, air pocket and blow high temp water. Lake Usori, situated alongside the sanctuary, is hued different shades of blue because of its high sulfur content.
