Byodoin Temple (平等院, Byōdōin) is a striking sample of Buddhist Pure Land (Jodo) building design. Together with its patio nursery, the sanctuary speaks to the Pure Land Paradise and was compelling on later sanctuary development. Byodoin was at first inherent 998 as a wide open retreat estate for the capable legislator Fujiwara no Michinaga, not as a sanctuary.
Michinaga's child transformed Byodoin into a sanctuary and requested the development of its most astounding component, the Phoenix Hall. Despite the fact that the building was given another authority name, very quickly after its development in 1053, it was nicknamed Hoodo ("Phoenix Hall") in light of its shape and the two phoenix statues on its rooftop. The corridor is presently included on the back of the Japanese ten yen coin.
